University Of Ghana Suspends Professors Over Sex For Grades Scandal

The University of Ghana has suspended two of its academics who have been stuck on digicam making sexual advances at some BBC reporters who posed as scholars.

The lecturers, Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr. Paul Kwame Butakor have been relieved in their place following the BBC’s “Sex for Grades” documentary. The University says it has commenced investigations into the allegations.

We wish to state unequivocally that the University places nice significance on issues of sexual harassment and misconduct, and condemn any of such acts. Given that commitment, the Business and Executive Committee of the University has taken a call to interdict Prof. Ransford Gyampo and Dr. Paul Kwame Butakor, the 2 teachers featured within the documentary to allow for further investigations into the topic.

In line with University rules, the two can be invited via the Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee in the following few days to help with further investigations into the BBC documentary. While the University of Ghana believes sexual harassment is essentially about exploiting energy imbalance and voicelessness, we also perceive the damaging effect it has on people, households, and establishments.

It is for this reason that the University has taken steps to inspire scholars and employees to record any form of sexual harassment and misconduct, and has additionally instituted measures to punish someone found responsible of the offence.

In all circumstances where the University has been provided with information and/or proof of sexual harassment or misconduct, our Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee has investigated the topic, interviewed the events involved, and after creating a determination, we have carried out the precise sanctions as defined in the coverage, together with dismissals.
